As conference play got underway in earnest there were three conferences tied for the lead for the most teams with at least one player with dreads. The Big South, Southland, and OVC had four teams each where you'd be able to find some dreads. But let's start DG142 with the ACC, where there's only one player with dreads.
.
.
1. Sophomore G Rod Hall of Clemson begins ACC play by getting his shot rejected by Florida State C Kiel Turpin on the first possession of the day on Jan. 5.
.
.
2. Rod Hall drives against FSU G Michael Snaer during 1st half on Jan. 5. Hall finished with 6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals; but he also had a key turnover (his only one of the game) with 17 seconds remaining and Clemson down by 3. The Tigers' rally from a 15-point deficit early in 2nd half fell short as FSU held on for the road win 71-66.
.
.
3. Once again Rod Hall tries to drive past Michael Snaer, this time on Jan. 24 at Tallahassee. The uniform colors may have changed, but the final result didn't. Hall had 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists, but Clemson couldn't hold a 42-31 lead with 12:08 to play, and FSU won 60-57 on Snaer's 3-pointer at the buzzer.
.
.
4. Rod Hall shoots - and hits - a shot against Virginia F Darion Atkins at Clemson on Jan. 12. Hall went 4-for-4 from the field, finishing with 8 points, 2 assists, and 0 turnovers in 36 minutes as the Tigers picked up their 1st ACC win, 59-44 over Virginia.
.
.
5. Rod Hall goes to the basket for a layup between forwards C.J. Leslie and Richard Howell of North Carolina State on Jan. 20 at Raleigh. Hall scored a season high 16 points and added 3 rebounds and 2 assists, but the game did not have a happy ending for Rod .....
.
.
6. ..... With Clemson trailing by 3 and 8.7 seconds remaining, Hall loses his balance after catching an inbounds pass. He tried to dribble as he went down, and the ball bounces up .....
.
.
7. ..... and into the hands of G Lorenzo Brown. Hall then immediately fouled Brown with 5.5 seconds to go, and Brown made 1 FT to clinch the victory for the Wolfpack 66-62.
.
.
8. Rod Hall takes it to the basket for a left handed layup past F Robert Carter of Georgia Tech on Jan. 29. Rod had 4 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals in a 63-60 home victory as the Tigers finished January at 4-4 in the ACC and 12-8 overall. Hall played at least 31 minutes in all 8 conference games.
.
.
From the only ACC player with dreads we go to the only SEC player with dreads.
9. Sophomore G Levi Randolph of Alabama loses control of the ball as he collides with G Earnest Ross of Missouri while attempting a shot during 1st half on Jan. 8 in the SEC opener for both teams. No foul was called either way. The Crimson Tide routed Mizzou on their first football trip to Columbia back in October; but it was a different story in basketball. Randolph finished with 5 points and 5 rebounds, but the Tigers rolled to an 84-68 victory.
.
.
10. 6-foot-5 Levi Randolph beats 6-4 teammate Andrew Steele to a rebound during 1st half on Jan. 16 against Mississippi State.
.
.
11. Levi Randolph hits a deep 2-pointer from the corner in front of G Craig Sword, putting the Crimson Tide ahead to stay 20-19 with 7 minutes to go in 1st half. The Tide turned the game into a blowout, outscoring the Bulldogs 45-21 in 2nd half to pick up an easy 75-43 road win. Levi finished with 18 points (on 7-9 FG shooting), 8 rebounds, and 3 steals - the 2nd straight year he had his season high in points in a game against MSU.
.
.
12. Big men Kourtney Roberson of Texas A&M and Moussa Gueye watch Levi Randolph dunk for his only 2 points of the game, pulling the Tide to within 28-24 early in 2nd half on Jan. 19. After scoring only 15 points in 1st half and trailing by 11, the Tide went on a 15-2 run in the first 4 minutes of 2nd half to take the lead. Alabama lost at home to A&M in football back in November; but it was a different story in basketball, as the Tide pulled out a 50-49 victory.
.
.
13. Levi Randolph takes the band off his dreads as he celebrates with teammates and fans after a 59-55 victory over Kentucky on Jan. 22 at Tuscaloosa. Levi finished with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots as the Tide won their 4th in a row after the loss to Missouri. The Tide finished January at 5-2 in the SEC and 13-7 overall.
.
.
14. Freshman G Russell Wilson of Samford drives to the basket between F Tawasi King and Josh Mendenhall of Western Carolina during 1st half on Jan. 17 at Birmingham. Wilson had one of his best games of the season, finishing with 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals as Samford improved to 4-1 and took a short-lived lead in the SOCON North with a 64-60 victory over WCU.
.
.
15. Senior G Bobby Austin, the SOCON's only other player with dreads, dives to try to beat Charleston G Andrew Lawrence to a loose ball on Jan. 5. Austin finished with 0 points (one of 4 scoreless games he had this season), 3 rebounds, 0 assists, and 3 turnovers in Furman's 60-56 road loss.
.
.
16. Sophomore G Hameed Ali shoots and hits his only 3-point attempt of the game against the defense of ORU G Warren Niles at Corpus Christi on Jan. 17, bringing Texas A&M-CC to within 16-15 with 5:17 remaining in 1st half. Ali finished with 9 points, 2 assists, and 4 steals; but ORU, after leading by 2 at the half, pulled away to win 64-52. The Islanders went 1-6 in January, with the only win coming at Lamar on Jan. 12.
.
.
17. And speaking of Lamar, ORU F Shawn Glover misses a short shot against the defense of Lamar junior F Amos Wilson, as freshman G Donnell Minton looks on early in 2nd half at Tulsa on Jan. 24. Wilson finished the night with 5 points and 3 rebounds in 22 minutes.
.
.
18. As was often the case in photos of Donnell Minton this season, his free-flowing dreads prevent us from seeing his face, as here he and teammate Donley Minor go for a loose ball against Shawn Glover. But those loose dreads must not have affected Minton's much, at least not in this game. He scored a season high 17 points and tied his season high with 5 assists, but Lamar lost anyway 91-74. The Cardinals went 0-9 in SLC play in January to drop to 2-19 overall.
.
.
19. FAU freshman G Stefan Moody defends against MTSU G Bruce Massey in SBC action on Jan. 10 at Murfreesboro, TN. Moody finished with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and a season high 6 turnovers (one of 3 times he had 6 turnovers) in FAU's 62-52 defeat.
.
.
20. Two nights later here's Stefan Moody on defense again, trying to steal the ball from Western Kentucky G Brandon Harris. Moody had 'only' 4 turnovers in this game, along with 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist as the Owls pulled out a 65-62 road win over WKU.
.
.
21. Towson junior G Rafriel Guthrie backs away trying to convince the officials he has not committed a foul as G Devon Saddler attempts a desperation, last-second 3-pointer on Jan. 16. Guthrie was very close to Saddler when he began his jump but made no contact, and correctly no foul was called. Guthrie scored 15 points in 23 minutes, and Towson outscored Delaware 14-5 in the final 3:40 to steal a 69-66 CAA road win.
.
.
22. William & Mary began 2013 with one last nonconference game on Jan. 2, and sophomore G Marcus Thornton had a difficult night at Vanderbilt. Here Thornton has his shot blocked by G Kevin Bright before it even leaves his hand with 6:40 remaining in 1st half. Marcus shot 5 for 16 from the field, including having his shot blocked five times.
.
.
23. Marcus Thornton shows he knows exactly where the line is as he lands with his foot barely inbounds on a play during 2nd half on Jan. 2. I don't know how this ended up; but with his heel about an inch above the line, he would have to have gotten rid of the ball immediately to avoid a violation.
.
.
24. Marcus Thornton makes sure nobody blocks this shot, but he is called for a technical foul after his dunk cuts Vanderbilt's lead to 47-39 midway through 2nd half. Thornton had 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 turnovers as W&M lost to Vanderbilt 64-50.
.
.
25. Back home on Jan. 5, Marcus Thornton lofts a shot over George Mason C Erik Copes. W&M had a 13-0 run in a span of 3:36 late in 1st half and early in 2nd half; but other than that it was all George Mason. Despite 19 points by Thornton, the Tribe fell to GMU 73-66. Marcus scored at least 13 points in every game in January, but W&M went 1-8 during the month to sink to 2-7 in the CAA and 8-12 overall.
.
.
26. UNC-Wilmington senior F Keith Rendleman puts up a shot as G Jerome Hairston, C Bilal Dixon (#24) and F Marcus Dumas look on in CAA action on Jan. 2 at Wilmington. Rendleman scored 14 points and had a career high 21 rebounds (tying the school record), but the Seahawks lost to Towson 79-74.
.
.
27. Keith Rendleman goes to the floor while battling for possession against G Devon Moore and F Taylor Bessick of JMU on Jan. 9. You might remember that Moore was featured in a couple of my dread galleries from the 2008-09 season, but he hasn't had dreads since he was a freshman. Rendleman scored 17 points and had a season low 3 rebounds as UNCW got routed by JMU 78-50 to drop to 0-3 in the CAA. The Seahawks finished January with a 3-5 record in CAA play.
.
.
28. Wichita State senior F Carl Hall started 2013 on the disabled list with a broken thumb, but he made it back in time for the Shockers' showdown with Creighton on Jan. 19. Here he has his goggles knocked loose as he attempts a shot against F Ethan Wragge during 1st half at Wichita. Carl had a strong game with 17 points and 13 rebounds but nearly gave the game away when he missed 5 of 6 free throws in the final 2 minutes. Wichita State hung on though, defeating Creighton 67-64 to leave both teams at 17-2.
.
.
Now let's look at a few players who did not appear in my dread galleries from November and December.
29. Brandon Taylor, a 6-7, 235-pound freshman F for Penn State, plays keep away from F Shavon Shields as he looks for a teammate to pass to on Jan. 19. Taylor had 9 points and 6 rebounds, but Penn State lost the battle of teams that were 0-5 in the Big 10 as Nebraska picked up a 68-64 road win.
.
.
30. Brandon Taylor tries to prevent F Melsahn Basabe from getting to the basket during 1st half on Jan. 31 at Iowa City. A foul was probably called. I say that because Brandon was called for 5 fouls in just 19 minutes. He also had 8 points and 4 rebounds in Penn State's 76-67 loss to Iowa as the Nittany Lions finished January at 0-9 in Big 10 play, 8-13 overall.
.
.
31. 6-4 junior G Reese Holliday, a 2-time selection on my all-America with dreads team, shoots a driving layup against Bowling Green F Spencer Parker on Jan. 26 at Toledo. Holliday had 7 points and 5 rebounds as Toledo improved to 3-3 in the MAC, ending a 3-game losing streak with a 75-62 victory. I don't know if Reese's dreads got shorter or he just bunched them together differently, but they weren't as impressive looking as they were last season.
.
.
32. 6-0 freshman G Daveon Balls of Northern Illinois did not have dreads at the beginning of the season but converted early in the season. Here he tries to guard Miami (Ohio) G Quinten Rollins on Jan. 9. Balls, who started 12 times this season, didn't have one of his better games against MU, finishing with 0 points, 2 assists, and 4 turnovers in 19 minutes; but the Huskies got the road win in their MAC opener 72-61, one of only 3 MAC victories they had this season.
.
.
33. Wright State G Reggie Arceneaux looks to get a shot up against 6-1 freshman G Jeff White in Horizon League action on Jan. 11 at Chicago. White finished with 7 points and 2 assists; but neither he nor any of his teammates had any success stopping Arceneaux, who scored 29 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer with 1:35 to play as WSU edged Loyola 62-61.
.
.
34. 6-0 sophomore G Oliver Wells handles the ball as G Dre Evans defends for Southeastern Louisiana on Jan. 5. Wells, who started 12 times for Central Arkansas this season, finished with 8 points (tying his season high), 3 rebounds, an 2 assists in 26 minutes, but the Bears lost to SE LA 72-68, the second of 5 straight losses to start January. UCA won their next 3 and finished the month at 3-6 in the Southland Conf.
.
.
35. Reco McCarter, a 6-6, 195-pound sophomore forward, did not have dreads during his two seasons at VCU but debuted them in his first season in a Campbell uniform. McCarter, shown here trying to drive past G Warren Gillis of Coastal Carolina, transferred to Campbell so that he could play at a school closer to home and to get more playing time. He started 18 games this season, including here on Jan. 26, a game in which he had 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals as the Fighting Camels lost to CCU 73-59. The defeat dropped Campbell to 5-2 in the Big South and started a 5-game losing streak.
.
.
36. 5-8 sophomore G R.J. Williams of Loyola (Maryland), suspended for the first 18 games of the season (I never found out why), didn't make his 2012-13 debut until Jan. 17. Here in his 3rd game of the season he handles the ball against the defense of Manhattan G CJ Jones during 2nd half on Jan. 25. Williams had 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals for the Greyhounds in a 51-41 road victory.
.
.
37. Two days later R.J. Williams battles for possession against the always-reduced dreads of G Tavon Sledge during a key MAAC contest at Baltimore. Williams had 5 points and a season high 7 assists, while Sledge finished with 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Iona came up with the road win 79-71. The Loyola coaching staff must have been eager for Williams' suspension to end. Upon his return to the lineup, only once in the final 17 games did he play fewer than 25 minutes.
.
.
38. We've already seen Montreal Holley and Cameron Dobbs in the last two DGs, and now here is the 3rd player with dreads for Mississippi Valley State, 6-5 junior F Ervin Thomas, letting Grambling G Will Hornsby dribble past him as Dobbs waits to enter the game in SWAC action on Jan. 28. Thomas, who became eligible at the end of the fall semester on Dec. 19, doesn't have dreads quite as long as Dobbs' but still figures to be a candidate for my Dread all-America team next season. In this game Ervin had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals as MVSU defeated hapless Grambling 65-50.
.
.
39. And speaking of Cameron Dobbs, here are those sick dreads of his, arguably the longest in Division 1, as he tries to dribble past Jackson State G John Lewis on Jan. 26.
.
.
40. And one last look at freshman G Cameron Dobbs, again with John Lewis defending on Jan. 26. Dobbs had 5 points and 2 rebounds in the Delta Devils' 60-57 road loss to JSU, dropping their record to 2-16. For the season he averaged 4.0 PPG (29.5 FG%) 1.0 RPG, and 0.6 APG in 12 minutes per game. Already on the Dread all-America team, Cameron has a chance to be on the team for 4 straight years if he keeps these dreads growing.
.
.
41. 6-4 sophomore G Roman Higgins of Grambling goes to the basket against 6-9 C Madut Bol of Southern U on Jan. 6. Higgins had 2 points and 4 turnovers in 13 minutes as GSU got blown out (as usual) at home 82-43. Punished by NCAA sanctions for poor academic progress and with just 5 scholarship players on the roster, Grambling lost all 28 games this season, all but one of them by 11 points or more. Higgins was on the court for 25 of them, averaging 3.7 PPG (33.6 FG%) and 2.5 RPG in 15 minutes.
.
.
42. South Carolina State freshman F Darryl Palmer goes head-to-head, literally, with South Carolina G Brian Richardson while playing defense on Jan. 5 at Columbia. Palmer finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots; but the Bulldogs, who jumped out to a 10-2 led and led for most of 1st half, ended up losing to the Gamecocks 80-69. Palmer was a very bright spot in SCSU's dismal 6-24, 2-14 MEAC, season, earning all-MEAC rookie team honors and leading the Bulldogs in blocked shots. He played in all 30 games, starting 25, and averaged 9.5 PPG (44.0 FG%), 5.9 RPG, and 1.5 BPG in 27 MPG. He figures to be a star in the MEAC in the seasons ahead.
.
.
43. Radford freshman F Juwan Wells puts up a hand trying to make North Carolina A&T G R.J. Buck miss in a nonconference game on Jan. 2 at Greensboro. Wells had 2 points and 2 rebounds in 9 minutes in Radford's 81-77 defeat. Juwan didn't play much in the first two months of the season and then played even less in Big South play. He averaged 1.1 points (27.3 FG%) and 1 rebound in 6 MPG in 20 games as a reserve in the Highlanders' 13-19, 7-9 Big South, season.
.
.
44. A pair of J-Rob's duel at Cincinnati on Jan. 30 as freshman F Jalen Robinson of Dayton shoots over Xavier senior F Jeff Robinson (no relation).
.
.
45. This time it's Jeff Robinson shooting against Jalen Robinson, and much more emphatically at that. Jeff finished with 12 points (including 3 dunks) and 5 rebounds. Jalen had 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals in 25 minutes. Jalen hit a shot to gave Dayton a 61-60 lead with 1:28 to play, but Xavier scored the last 6 points of the game to win the first of two meetings between the rivals, 66-61. Dayton finished the month at 2-4 in the Atlantic 10 and 12-8 overall.
.
.
46. UMass senior G Freddie Riley delivers a swift kick to G Anthony Strickland while passing out of the double team by Strickland and G J.R. Sims on Jan. 5. Riley also did some damage with his hands, firing in 6 of 9 from 3-point range - make that NBA 3-point range - for a season high 18 points in a 75-61 home victory over Eastern Michigan. Take a look at the highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKySV1y8Cig ..... UMass went 6-2 in January to finish the month at 14-5, 4-2 in the Atlantic 10.
.
.
47. This being a photo from the Saint Louis U website, we don't get to see as much of Freddie Riley as we would've liked as he defends against junior G Jordair Jett on Jan. 10. Prior to this game Riley's career high was 30 minutes played (on two occasions); but after starting G Jesse Morgan went down with a torn ACL early in 2nd half, Freddie found himself on the court for 35 minutes - and he played no fewer than 29 minutes in any game the rest of the season. He finished with 7 points against SLU, while Jett had 15 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 5 turnovers as the Billikens defeated the Minutemen 70-62.
.
.
48. Jordair Jett goes up for a layup past Butler guards Jackson Aldridge (#11) and Rotnei Clarke during 2nd half at St. Louis on Jan. 31. Jordair scored a season high 19 points (8-12 FG) and had 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals in just 23 minutes as the Billikens improved to 15-5, spanking Butler - ranked #9 at the time - 75-58.
.
.
49. Kansas State freshman F D.J. Johnson hits the shot and is fouled by Iowa State F Melvin Ejim with 14:53 to play in Big 12 action on Jan. 26. Johnson, the Big 12's only player with dreads this season, missed the ensuing FT, keeping ISU in the lead 41-40. D.J., who played a total of 16 minutes in K-State's other 6 games in January, was on the floor for 20 minutes in this game and finished with 4 points and 2 rebounds. The Wildcats fell to 15-4, 4-2 Big 12, with a 73-67 road loss to Iowa State. .
.
.
50. After his little fling with reduced dreads during the first 6 games in January, Nebraska sophomore F David Rivers thankfully had his dreads back to normal for the rest of the season, starting with this game on Jan. 22, although it's not easy to tell in this shot, as he tries to squeeze his 191 pounds in between C Nnanna Egwu (235 pounds) and F Sam McLaurin (220) of Illinois in an attempt to get the ball away from Egwu. Rivers was held to 5 points and 2 rebounds as Illinois got revenge for last season's embarrassing 23-point loss at Lincoln, whipping the Cornhuskers 71-51.
.
.
51. Here's a much better look at David Rivers' sick dreads, as he watches F Trevor Mbakwe give Minnesota an 11-4 lead with a layup on Jan. 29 at Minneapolis. Rivers, who saw significant action in just one Big 10 game last season, was on the court for a lot of minutes for all 18 league games this season; but this was probably his worst game of the 18. He had 0 points (0-3 FG, 0-2 FT) and 4 fouls in 15 minutes. Nebraska finished the month at 2-7 in the Big 10 and 11-11 overall with an 84-65 loss to Minnesota.
.
.
52. Sick sophomore F Tavares Sledge of Wright State drives to the basket against UW-Green Bay C Brennan Cougill in the Horizon League opener for both teams on Jan. 3 at Dayton .....
.
.
53. ..... In the same game Tavares Sledge now looks to score against F Greg Mays. Sledge was unusually active on offense, attempting 13 shots from the field (by far his season high). He finished with a season high 13 points (and would have had more had he done better than 3 for 8 from the line) and a season high 9 rebounds as the Raiders defeated UWGB 64-53.
.
.
54. Having already scored 29 points, G Kannon Burrage tries to send the game into overtime but loses control of the ball as he drives against junior F Chris Anderson of Louisiana Tech during the closing seconds on Jan. 12 at San Antonio. UTSA kept possession but missed a long 3-pointer at the buzzer. Anderson had one of his better games, finishing with 10 points (the first of his 3 games in double figures), 3 rebounds, and 2 steals as the Bulldogs escaped with a 73-71 win to improve to 5-0 in the WAC.
.
.
55. Sophomore G Kenneth Smith looks on as Utah State G TeNale Roland shoots a driving layup against junior F Cordarius Johnson on Jan. 26 at Logan, UT. Johnson scored 0 points (he shot 1 for 14 with a total of 3 points in a 4-game span from Jan. 17-26) but did contribute 6 rebounds in 18 minutes.
.
.
56. G Kenneth Smith defends against G Marcel Davis on Jan. 26. Smith scored only 2 points but contributed with 6 rebounds, a season high 10 assists (on Tech's 19 FGs in the game) and 0 turnovers. The Bulldogs made only 1 FG in the final 6:42, but that one shot was the game-winning 3-pointer by G Raheem Appleby with 1:26 to play and after LA Tech had blown a 48-40 lead. The Bulldogs won at Utah State for the first time ever (they had been 0-7) 51-48 to finish January at 9-0 in the WAC and 18-3 overall.
.
.
And now on to the OVC.
57. G Travis Betran tries to dribble past junior G Justin Childs of Tennessee-Martin on Jan. 5. Childs finished the night with 6 points, 2 assists, and 5 turnovers in 20 minutes. UTM picked up their 1st OVC win, 76-74 in overtime, when they made 2 FT after Austin Peay was called for a foul while trying for an offensive rebound with 0.1 second on the clock. After being a key player for the Skyhawks all season, Childs saw his playing time shrink for a few games at the end of January, playing a total of only 17 minutes in the team's last three games of the month.
.
.
58. Senior G Devon Atkinson of Morehead State tries to scare G AJ Lynch into a turnover as Austin Peay tries to extend their 16-point lead during 1st half on Jan. 9 at Clarksville, TN. It didn't work - Lynch had 0 turnovers in 8 minutes. For most of his 33 minutes on the court (before fouling out) Atkinson found himself matched up against Austin Peay's point guard with dreads .....
.
.
59. ..... Junior G Jeremy Purvis defends Atkinson as he looks to drive.
.
.
.
60. Devon Atkinson harasses Jeremy Purvis as he brings the ball upcourt during 1st half. A foul should have been called (for contact that far away from the basket), but I don't think one was. Before he fouled out, Atkinson had 2 points, 7 assists, and 4 turnovers. Purvis finished with 7 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 1 turnover in 36 minutes. Austin Peay blew a 21-point lead but still ended their 8-game losing streak, defeating Morehead State 84-81 on a Travis Betran 3-pointer with 1 second remaining in overtime.
.
.
61. In Austin Peay's next game on Jan. 12 Jeremy Purvis gets the chance to go up against the league's best, as he drives against Murray State G Isaiah Canaan (who just got drafted by the NBA a few days ago). Jeremy finished with 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in 27 minutes. But defensively .... well, Canaan led Murray State with 26 points. The Governors hung tough but fell to the Racers, 71-68, to begin another 8-game losing streak.
.
.
62. Jeremy Purvis launches a shot - and misses - over SIU-Edwardsville G Reggie Reed midway through 1st half on Jan. 17. Purvis missed all 5 of his FG attempts in the game, finishing with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals in a 66-53 home loss to SIU-E. The Governors did not win again until Feb. 14.
.
.
63. Tennessee Tech F Dennis Ogbe had 5 blocked shots on Jan. 31, but doesn't get credit for this one because G Jeremiah Samarrippas (#2) was called for a foul as Tennessee State senior G Tashan Fredrick goes to the basket early in 1st half at Nashville. Fredrick, with the OVC's sickest dreads, scored 4 of TSU's first 8 points but then didn't score the rest of the night as the Tigers improved to 7-3 in the OVC with an 84-65 victory over Tennessee Tech.
.
.
And let's wrap up DG142 with the two players with sick dreads in the Atlantic Sun.
.
.
64. Junior F Hunter Harris of East Tennessee State tries to keep possession as F Andy Diaz reaches in on Jan. 26 at Johnson City, TN.
.
.
65. Hunter Harris goes to the basket for a shot against North Florida F BaeBae Daniels. He very likely made the shot because he made 9 of his 11 FG attempts in the game. It was Harris' best game of the season - a season high 25 points and 8 rebounds in 34 minutes in an 89-75 home victory over UNF.
.
.
Two weeks earlier Harris had several close encounters with the A-Sun's other dreadhead .....
66. Hunter Harris goes up and hits a shot in the lane against FGCU senior G Sherwood Brown to tie the game at 8 with 16:57 remaining in 1st half on Jan. 12 .....
.
.
67. ..... On ETSU's next possession Brown watches helplessly as Harris slams home his 2nd and last FG of the game for a short-lived 10-9 lead.
.
.
68. Hunter Harris again looks to score against Sherwood Brown, but I think this was the play when (according to the game play-by-play) G Brett Comer (#0 lurking behind Harris) came over to block the shot with 5:17 to play until halftime. Harris was in foul trouble and eventually fouled out in 20 minutes, finishing with 9 points and 1 rebound. Brown had 17 points and 11 rebounds. ETSU trailed 55-36 early in 2nd half but came roaring back to upset FGCU 85-75.
.
